I asked myself this question sometime this week because I noticed something. I noticed that sometimes the problem is not that we don't know what we need to do because we know.
We know the importance of doing it. We even know what's going to happen if we don't do it. Our major problem is DOING IT.
I’ve been using the word ‘do’ a lot I hope you don’t get dizzy but stay with me. It's the reason why you set an alarm, it goes off. You wake up to dismiss it and still go back to bed.
Some people even set four different alarms and they wake up to silence every single one.
Discipline is doing what you are supposed to do when you're supposed to do it. It's a skill I really want to build in this time of my life and I think it's one you should build too.
It's very important you see it as a skill because just like every other skill you learn you'll try, fail, keep trying, keep failing but by all means you make sure you keep getting better. One significant trend you see in the life of successful people you admire is that they've mastered the art of discipline. So now they show up and give out excellence irrespective of how they feel.
At this point, I think I need to drop a DISCLAIMER.
Discipline is not burnout, it's not overworking yourself because you've set unrealistic goals that you're trying to meet by all means. It's understanding priorities, setting systems, and showing up for those systems.
I want to be more Disciplined, I want to show up consistently where I said I would, whether I feel like it or not. I want to pray whether I feel like it or not, study my books the minute it's time to do so, and work on design projects when I'm meant to.
What about you? Tell me in the comments section, are you going to build this skill called discipline?
Don't forget to like this mail so I know you enjoyed it, till I write to you next week.
Stay Intentional,
Abigail.
