Have you ever fallen on a staircase in public before?
If your answer is YES then you'll agree with me that the hardest part is getting up and moving on like nothing happened.
How do I fall, stain my dress and still stand up and keep walking as if nothing happened?
And I feel that's the hardest part about consistency too. Let me tell you a story I've not told anyone before.
So I started writing these emails in March. My school was on strike, I had all the time in the world. Not all but you get my point, I had a lot of free time on my hands so I was consistent. Every week, Monday morning, BACK TO BACK. Plus I was posting at least thrice a week on Instagram. I was on fire!
Then school resumed in October. They were rushing us for our exams. I couldn't keep up and I had to just pause everything. I remember that period Mondays were the worst days for me cause I'll spend them thinking, "so that's how my community members will think I'm unserious"
And sometimes I'll even get a message or two saying, Abigail we've not seen anything from you recently hope you're fine? It was just a down time for me.
Fast forward to a few months later, we finished our exams, and the semester came to an end. I now had time but I just kept feeling so incompetent. I didn't know how to start sending emails or posting again. I didn't know how to stand up, dust my dress and keep walking as if nothing happened.
I finally started sending emails again in January and I finally posted a written Content on Instagram on Saturday and it took a lot from me. It was a struggle to stand up and keep moving like nothing happened.
That's why when you've broken your bible streak it's almost like it gets 3x harder to start a new one.
And when you've been going to class consistently and then you missed one then two. Now going to class is even harder than before.
That's why it's harder for you to pray when you've not prayed for a very long time.
You can't bring yourself to just start it all over again cause your mind is telling you. You'll still break it again so just stay on the floor.
Well, I just want to tell you one thing I used to tell my friends a lot in secondary school. And that is,
When you fall in public, get back up SO FAST that nobody notices.
Don't stay on the ground and sulk for pity, you're making yourself look weak. Get back up, dust your dress, plaster a smile on your face, and keep strutting like nothing ever happened.
We're in the second month of the year and no matter how far-fetched you are from that consistency streak you've been trying to build. Just stand up and keep going. Stand up so fast that nobody even notices you broke the streak.
You're not a failure when you fall and get up but you're proving those insecurities right when you fall and stay on the ground.
I hope this mail met you at the right time and you learnt something valuable to help you at this present phase of your life. Don't forget to like and share to someone that needs this.
